The Louisville
Police Athletic/Activities League is currently sponsoring an after school Tutoring/Learning
Center at Meyzeek Middle School. This year's program is called Meyzeek PAL Learning Clubs. These clubs conduct a combination of tutoring and creative activities.
The clubs are:
• The Meyzeek School Newspaper Club - Mrs. Burton
• The Technology Club - Ms. Wright
• The Heritage Club - Ms. White
• The Discovering Math in Everyday Living Club - Ms. McHolland
• The Math Enrichment Club - Mrs. O'Bannon-Morton
Meyzeek PAL Learning Clubs meet after school on
Wednesday's and Thursday's from 2:30 to 4:30. During the first part of each two-hour session,
participating students are given assistance with their homework. During the second half of each
session, students work on creative projects within the scope of their particular club.
During the month of November, Meyzeek Pal Learning Clubs had 2 guest speakers. The first was Mr.
Chris Kenning of the Courier Journal. Mr. Kenning spoke to the
Newspaper Club about Journalism and
specifically about what goes into producing a good newspaper article.
Our second guest speaker in November was Mr. Tom Owen, the Louisville Metro Councilman representing
the 8th District of Louisville. Councilman Owen spoke to the Heritage club about the history of
Louisville and specifically the history of Smoketown, Sheppard Square, and Meyzeek Middle School.
